Electricity and water services in the Republic of The Gambia are operated by the Gambia National Water and Electric Company (NAWEC), and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is responsible for national energy policy, with its public materials covering the application of solar and other renewable energy. This procurement provides solar power equipment and elevated water tanks at Banni, Choya and Jenoi for the local water supply facilities, as a rural water supply solution powered by solar energy.
FAO in the Gambia works on agriculture, natural resources and rural livelihoods. Water supply facilities combining solar power with elevated tanks and associated pumps are one of the approaches used by the agency to improve water access in rural areas of The Gambia.
