02Project Background
Yemen has long faced a tight electricity supply situation, with constrained capacity of the national grid, and institutions and households widely rely on self-generation and distributed supply such as solar power; the World Bank Yemen country page and the FAO in Yemen country page set out the country's continuing development and humanitarian challenges in energy, water and food security.
FAO works in Yemen on agriculture, food security and rural livelihoods, and procures the goods and equipment required for its operations in the country. This procurement covers the supply of solar systems and air conditioner units required by the agency in Yemen.
The tender is issued as an Invitation to Bid (ITB) on the United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM), and offers are accepted only through that portal; as stated in the notice, offers not submitted through the UNGM portal are invalidated.
