The Government of Mozambique has received World Bank financing for water supply and sanitation investments in Nampula and Zambézia provinces, with the objective, under the Rural and Small Towns Water Security Project, of increasing access to improved water supply and sanitation services in selected small towns and rural areas and supporting institutional development of the sector. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, carries a commitment of USD 150 million and closes on 31 March 2029; one of its components finances water supply and sanitation systems around rural growth centres, including eight in Nampula and fourteen in Zambézia.
This procurement round is conducted by the Provincial Directorate of Public Works of Nampula as contracting authority and delivers the Level I multi-use water supply systems planned in Nampula Province under that project. The notice states that the contracting authority will apply funds from World Bank grant IDA-E6470 to contracts for the construction of five systems, contracted separately in five lots.
Solar multi-use water supply systems drive abstraction and pumping from photovoltaic generation, with associated storage and distribution facilities, and are suited to rural and small town areas with limited grid coverage. This system type is used in Mozambican rural water supply works to provide centralised supply points for dispersed settlements while also serving productive water uses such as livestock watering.
